What It Is

Tools that find what hands can miss

IASTM stands for instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization. Dr. Filippini uses specially designed tools that glide across the skin to locate restricted, thickened, or scarred tissue, then works through it to restore normal glide between the layers of muscle and fascia.

Old injuries often heal with scar tissue and adhesions that never fully release. That leftover restriction is a common reason movement stays stiff or pain keeps coming back long after the original injury. IASTM targets exactly that.

  • Chronic muscle tightness that stretching does not fix
  • Scar tissue and adhesions from older injuries
  • Tendon problems and limited range of motion
  • IT band and plantar fascia restriction
What to Expect

Short, targeted, and easy to fit in

An IASTM session is quick and done right in the office as part of your visit.

01

Find the restriction

The tool passes over the area, and both you and Dr. Filippini can feel where the tissue is bound up.

02

Work it loose

Focused strokes break down the adhesion and stimulate blood flow. Some redness afterward is normal and fades quickly.

03

Lock in the gain

We follow with an adjustment and targeted exercise so the new range of motion holds instead of slipping back.

Better Together

One piece of a complete plan

IASTM is most effective as part of your care, not a standalone gadget. Dr. Filippini combines it with the rest of the toolkit so the joint, the surrounding tissue, and how you move all improve together.

Good to Know

IASTM questions, answered

What is IASTM?

IASTM stands for instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization. Dr. Filippini uses specially designed tools to glide over the skin, find restricted tissue, and work through scar tissue and adhesions that limit movement.

Does IASTM hurt?

You may feel pressure and some tenderness over tight or scarred areas, and it is normal to see temporary redness afterward. The intensity is adjusted to your comfort.

What does IASTM help with?

It works well for chronic muscle tightness, scar tissue from old injuries, tendon problems, and limited range of motion, especially when tissue restriction is part of the picture.

Is IASTM used on its own?

Usually not. Dr. Filippini pairs it with chiropractic adjustments and rehab exercise so the joint, the tissue around it, and the movement pattern all improve together.

Feeling stuck and stiff?

If tightness keeps coming back no matter how much you stretch, IASTM may be the missing piece. Call to find out.
